SPRING 2008 PROFILE:  ISU DISTANCE LEARNERS

Spring 2008 enrollments in ISU distance learning courses set a record high.

Headcount (unduplicated) in ISU distance courses reached 2,663 students, generating a total of 4,296 enrollments (and 12,620 credit hours) per the 7-day count.

Profile

Of the 2,663 students enrolled in distance learning, the majority are:

  • Distance-only students (59.9%)
  • Over the age of 25 (63.3%)
  • Women (64.9%)

The majority (63.3%) live outside of Vigo and its six surrounding counties (Clay, Greene, Owen, Putnam, Sullivan and Vermillion).

I.  Enrollment by Level:

  • Undergraduate: 63.1%
  • Graduate: 36.9%

II.  Status:

  • Full-time undergrad: 38.9%
  • Part-time undergrad: 24.2%
  • Full-time grad: 5.8%
  • Part-time grad: 31.1%

III.  Average Age:

  • Undergraduates:  28 years
  • Graduates:  36.9 years

IV.  State:

  • Indiana (70.6%)
  • Out-of-State: (29.4%)

    Of these out-of-state students, the top locations (listed in order) were: Illinois, California, Florida, Ohio, Texas, Virginia, Michigan, North Carolina, Georgia, Missouri, Kentucky, New York, Wisconsin, Maryland, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Oklahoma, and Utah.

V.  Indiana Counties (Top 10):

  1. Vigo: 39.1%
  2. Marion: 6.5%
  3. Clay: 3.7%
  4. Hendricks: 2.7%
  5. Vermillion: 2.5%
  6. Sulllivan: 2.3%
  7. Lake: 2.3%
  8. Putnam: 2.1%
  9. Tippecanoe: 2.0%
  10. Monroe: 2.0%

VI.  Ethnicity:

  • African-American: 9.3%
  • Asian/Pacific Islander: 1.4%
  • Caucasian: 82.2%
