This graduate licensure program is designed for the licensed teacher (K-12) who wishes to add a gifted and talented teaching license.

This non-degree licensure program consists of 9 credits of course work offered entirely on-line (via the Internet). Campus visits are not required.

Upon successful completion of all course work, individuals are eligible to add a gifted and talented teaching license to an existing, current, Rules 2002 Indiana teaching license at the school level of the current license.

For holders of a Rules 46/47 license, a new 2002 GT license will be issued at the developmental level of the existing license. The addition of this license may be completed only at the graduate level.

Admission Requirements

  1. A baccalaureate degree granted by a regionally accredited institution;
  2. An undergraduate grade point average of 2.5 or better on a 4.0 scale;
  3. Hold (or be eligible for) a State of Indiana Teaching License. If one wishes to add a gifted and talented teaching license to an existing teaching license from some state other than Indiana, contact Education Student Services (below) for assistance. If an incoming graduate student does not possess a current teaching license, the student's advisor and the Graduate Committee may develop a program that will allow licensure according to departmental and state regulations.   4. The GRE (Graduate Record Examination) is not required.

How To Begin
Subsequent to completing steps 1-4 (above):

  1. Submit to the School of Graduate Studies a fully completed Non-Degree Admission Application Form (below) with a non-refundable admission application fee of $35.00 payable by credit card, money order, or check payable to Indiana State University.

  2. Submit official transcripts of all post-secondary schools attended, including those indicating a bachelor degree earned from a regionally accredited institution.
  3. Contact the instructor of the course(s) by either telephone or email. The instructor will provide any supplemental information needed to begin course work. For contact information, browse the Department's staff directory.
