All courses in the Human Resource Development Program are offered on-line (via the Internet). Courses also are offered via live I-TV, accessible at selected receive sites. Students select the course format most suited to their individual needs. See course descriptions below for important details.
HRD 605 Developing Performance Based Occupational Curriculum (3 hours)
Description: Identification and development of performance-based
occupational course content. Students will become familiar with essentials,
selection, and prioritizing of course content.
HRD 656 International and Cross Cultural Training (3 hours)
Description: The analysis, selection, design, implementation,
and evaluation of training programs to increase functional capabilities in
international and multicultural environments. Topics include the role of
communication, human responses to new cultural settings, and the teaching of
methods to analyze and react to cultural interfaces. Stress will be placed on
the design and use of interactive training materials including those based on
role playing, group discussion, and simulations.
TMGT 659 Occupation Internship (3 hours)
Description: The purpose of this field based project experience
is to identify and solve real training and linking problems common to the
educational establishments with industry and business. Note: 659 should not be
taken until the last 9-12 hours of course work.
HRD 670 Systematic Design of Human Resource Development Programs (3 hours)
Description: The design of Human Resource Development programs
includes strategic planning, establishing benchmarks, cost estimating for
implementation, and operation. A systems approach includes needs assessment,
designing, delivery system, and materials selection. Prerequisite: 605 or
equivalent.
HRD 675 Leadership in Human Resource Development (3 hours)
Description: A study of concepts and practices of leadership in
human resource development for education and industry. Students investigate
concepts and practices of leadership and organizational culture, and explore how
they affect people within an organization.
TMGT 685 Major Project (3 hours)
Description: This course is the culminating experience in human
resource development synthesizing concepts, knowledge, skills, attitudes, and
values in application to problems, issues, and concerns related to higher
education and industry. Must be taken in last 9 credits of program. Note: 698
should be taken prior to enrollment in 685 which should not be taken until the
last 9-12 hours of course work.
HRD 695 Rationale and Evaluation of Human Resource Development Programs (3
hours)
Description: Provides experiences in establishing the
foundations for and the evaluation of the many facets of Human Resource
Development training programs. Prerequisite: 670.
TMGT 698 Research Methods (3 hours)
Description: Study of research methods and an evaluation of
results with implications for further research.
TMGT 699 Master’s Thesis (6 hours)
Description: By arrangement with chairperson of student's thesis
committee.
