CIMT 509 Selection of Library Materials (3 hours)
Description: Selection and evaluation of print and non-print materials
for school and public libraries. Emphasis is on the process of building library
collections.
CIMT 512 Literature for Young People (3 hours)
Description: An overview of the role of literature in society and its
impact on supporting and extending lifelong learning. Emphasis is on
developmental strategies that enable the reader to create, critique, discuss and
enjoy literature including a wide variety of genres. The respect for diversity
in society, language, cultural, and ethnic customers is also emphasized.
CIMT 513 Topics in School and Public Libraries (3 hours)
Description: Emphasis is on three five-week segments of library
assessment, distance education, and the teacher of library media.
Prerequisite: 9 hours completed in program or permission of the
instructor.
CIMT 522 Introduction to Cataloging and Classification (3 hours)
Description: Methods and tools employed in the organization of all forms
of information for library use. Emphasis is on the standard cataloging and
classification methodology in organization of information.
Prerequisite: 9 hours completed in program or permission of the
instructor.
CIMT 543 Production of Instructional Materials (3 hours)
Description: The planning, preparing, producing and evaluating of media
for use in an instructional environment. This course is performance driven with
students being required to create instructional materials on an assigned basis.
Prerequisite: 306 or approval of instructor.
CIMT 606 Foundations of Libraries and Librarianship (3 hours)
Description: The focus of the course is to expose students to the
multifaceted functions and responsibilities of libraries and librarianship and
their roles in society. It will provide a broad basic knowledge to assist in
further career decision planning and a more comprehensive understanding of the
mission of school and public libraries in providing information services.
CIMT 631 Reference Sources and Services for Library Media (3 hours)
Description: Sources of print and non-print bibliographic and reference
information for school and public libraries. Also included is the theory and
practice of reference services.
CIMT 656 School and Public Library Administration (3 hours)
Description: An examination of the organization, operation, planning, and
equipping of school and public libraries. Emphasis is on the role of the
professional in the program.
Prerequisite: 9 hours completed in program or permission of the
instructor.
CIMT 659 Practicum in Library Media (3 hours)
Description: This course is comprised of 120 hours of field experience
under the supervision of a professional library media specialist in a school or
public library setting. It focuses on the demonstration of proficiency of 16
program standards incorporated throughout the program. A portfolio is required
based on each standard. This is to be the final course taken in the library
media program.
Prerequisites: All required Curriculum, Instruction, and Media Technology
library media courses.
