This program includes all courses required for licensure as a secondary and elementary principal.

Courses provide practical and theoretical knowledge of:

Case studies, simulations, practitioners, class dialogues and discussion, lecture, research and participation are a few of the ways students learn together during the class sessions. Culminating experiences include a year-long principal internship program and a professional development portfolio.

Distance courses in this program include on-campus components, typically three Saturday sessions per semester. The program can be completed in two semesters (full time); three semesters is the norm. Students have the option of part-time study.

EPSY 620 Foundations of Qualitative and Quantitative Research (3 hours)

ELAF 605 Philosophy of Education (3 hours)
ELAF 650 Foundations of Educational Leadership (3 hours)
ELAF 655 Legal Aspects of School Administration (3 hours)
ELAF 656 School and Community: Collaborating for Effective Schools (3 hours)
ELAF 681 The School Principal: Leadership for Changing Schools (3 hours)
ELAF 683 Leadership for Learning: Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment to Support Improved Student Performance (3 hours)
ELAF 758 Principal Internship (3-6 hours)
ELAF 793 Seminar in Effective Practices for Principals (2-3 hours)
EPSY 621 Development Through the Lifespan (3 hours)
Note: ELAF 758 and 793 comprise the 12-semester-hour internship component and are taken concurrently for two semesters.
Culminating Experience:
Development of a portfolio documenting and reflecting students' experiences during the two-semester internship.
