School Administration Post-Master's Non-Degree Licensure
Indiana State University offers a post-master's non-degree licensure program to meet the needs of individuals seeking to obtain licensure as a secondary and elementary principal. The graduate program leads to licensure as a school administrator. Upon completion, the program fulfills, in part, the requirements for the Building-Level Administration License prescribed by the Division of Professional Standards, Indiana Department of Education. In order to qualify for the Building-Level Administration License, the student must complete the program, hold an Indiana teaching license, present evidence of at least two years of teaching experience, and pass the state licensure examination.
- The School Administration Non-Degree Licensure Program is a 33-credit-hour program that can be completed via distance education and with minimal on-campus components. The program is only available to Indiana residents.
- The on-campus components of the program typically include three Saturday sessions per semester.
- The coursework for the program can be completed in two semesters with full-time study. The average program duration is three semesters (which could include summer attendance). Students have the option of part-time study.
- Culminating experiences include a year-long principal internship program and a professional development portfolio upon the completion of the majority of the coursework.
- Case studies, simulations, practitioners, class dialogues and discussion, lecture, research and participation are used throughout the program to foster an interactive learning experience during class sessions.
- The program coursework provides practical and theoretical knowledge of:
- Effective administrative practices
- School law
- Community and parent relations
- Work as a principal
- School improvement
- Teacher evaluation
Courses are offered on-line. Distance courses in this program include on-campus components, typically three Saturday sessions per semester. High-speed Internet access is required.

This program is only available to Indiana residents.
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum requirements:
- Hold a bachelor degree with a major in an appropriate area from an accredited college or university with a minimum grade point average of 2.50
- Hold a minimum grade point average of 3.25 on all graduate work attempted
- Hold or be eligible for an Indiana teaching license
- The GRE (Graduate Record Examination) is not required.
The University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
All ISU educator licensure programs and related school programs are accredited by the Indiana Department of Education and National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education.

Once admitted, students receive notification from the University as well as their University ID number needed to activate their Sycamore login on the MyISU Portal. The Portal offers access to online registration, University records, and other important University services, including e-mail, and University announcements.
Note: Returning ISU students must apply for re-admission if they have not attended ISU for more than two calendar years.

Financial Aid & Assistance:
Graduate students may be eligible for federal student loans if they are admitted into graduate degrees (or first-time teacher certification programs) and meet other eligibility requirements. Certificate programs are not eligible for financial aid. Private alternative loans can help students pay college expenses that may not be covered by federal loan programs or other financial aid.
