Follow these step-by-step instructions to get started at Indiana State University.

Step 1: Admission
If you wish to complete an ISU course or degree, you must apply for admission to the University as either a degree-seeking or non-degree seeking student.
Admission is an easy process. Apply online or use our print-based (PDF) application.
You may be eligible for financial aid if you will be completing an undergraduate or graduate

Step 3: Transfer Credit
Upon completion of the admission process, an academic advisor will review your
transcripts to determine which of your credits will transfer. Contact your advisor
to discuss your transferable hours, plan your schedule for the semester, and
obtain information needed to registered.

Step 4: Connect to ISU
Many ISU courses and services require access to an internet-connected computer that meets certain hardware / software requirements.

Step 5: Subscribe to Distance News
Distance News @indstate.edu is a free e-newsletter that contains important University announcements and news to
help you start and complete your distance courses.

Step 6: Log-On To MyISU Portal
The MyISU Portal offers one-stop access to:
Your University records
Class schedules
Online registration
ISU e-mail account
University announcements
Once admitted, you will receive (via regular postal service) your Sycamore Login, password,
and instructions for activating your online MyISU account at http://myisu.indstate.edu. If you do not receive this information, contact
the Help Desk
Step 7: Advisement
If you are seeking an ISU degree or program, you will need to contact your academic advisor, who will provide the necessary information

Step 8: Registration
Semester-Based Courses: Courses (and instructions and registration dates) are located in the
Class Schedule on the MyISU Portal.
Year-Based Courses: Selected undergraduate courses are offered via year-based study. Courses (and registration instructions)
are located in the Year-Based Distance Courses Guide.

Step 9: Bookstore / Course Materials
Contact the ISU Bookstore to purchase textbooks and materials for distance courses.
Once admitted, distance students should contact Traffic and Parking Services
to obtain a student identification (ID) card.
To request an ID card, call
1-812-237-8888. Or e-mail parking@indstate.edu The email must include:
Your Name
Your University Identification Number (Note: This is your 991
number-not your social security number)
Your complete mailing address (street and/or post office box)

Step 11: Starting Your Courses
After registration, you will need information to begin your courses. The following provides information, based on course delivery.
Desktop Videoconferencing courses: Make arrangements for connection as quickly as possible following registration by contacting the Office of
Distance Support Services at (812) 237-8080 or 1-888-237-8080.
I-TV courses: Make receive site arrangements as quickly as possible following registration
to ensure a site in your area. For instructions, see www.indstate.edu/distance/news/tech3
On-campus courses: Dates, times, and locations of on-campus courses are listed in the Class Schedule on the MyISU Portal.
Web (online) courses: To access courses, log on to the portal at
MyISU Portal and click the
My Courses tab. Typically, courses are not accessible until the first day of class.

Step 12: New Student Orientation
"Virtual Knowing Sycamores" is an online (video) orientation on student services available to ISU
distance learners.
