Indiana State University offers a Visual Impairment Licensure Program via distance learning.

This non-degree licensure (Indiana VI) program consists of six courses totaling 16 credit hours.

Courses are delivered via the Internet. The first five (5) three-credit-hour courses each include: one or two weekend sessions (in Terre Haute or Indianapolis); occasional evening sessions on a weekday (in Indianapolis); and scheduled chat sessions. The sixth course is a one-credit-hour practicum.

The Visual Impairment Licensure Program is a consortium effort of Indiana State University, Ball State University, Project Vision, and the Indiana Department of Education, Center for Exceptional Learners.

SPED 652 Programs and Services for Individuals with Visual Impairments (3 credits)
SPED 653 Communication Skills for Individuals with Visual Impairments (3 credits)
SPED 654 Instructional Accommodations for Individuals with Visual Impairment (3 credits)
SPED 655 Principles of Orientation and Mobility (3 credits)
SPED 656 Practicum in Teaching Students with Visual Impairment (1 credit)

Eligibility
To be eligible, individuals must hold (or be eligible for) an Indiana teaching license in Special Education or General Education. Individuals who hold (or are eligible for) an Indiana teaching license in General Education may be required to take some additional courses depending upon a review of their transcripts by the Indiana State University licensing advisor.
