K-2 Reading Conference FAQ

I've never attended a K-2 reading conference. What can I expect on November 21?

The speakers and sessions will provide you with the latest scientific reading research in foundational skills and intervention instruction.  One thing you will receive from the institute is high- quality professional learning that's personally fulfilling. You'll have the opportunity to network with teachers across the state and share your knowledge with your entire school staff.

What is the charge for the conference?

There is no charge for attendees. Attendees must be member of a school district that resides in the Duke Energy service area.

What is the charge for lunch?

Attendees will receive a free lunch provided by Duke Energy.

Who should attend the conference?

Indiana State University and Duke Energy encourages K-2 classroom teachers and reading teachers to attend. Two teachers per elementary school may attend and no more than 6 teachers per corporation in order to provide an opportunity for as many corporations as possible to attend.

Will I receive for professional growth points for attending?

Yes. Certificates will be available at the end of the conference.

Will parking be provided?

Yes. Parking is free.

Where is the closest hotel?

The closest hotel is the Hilton Garden Inn, located just 4 blocks from the summit site. Ask for the Duke Energy/ISU rate of $119 per night.

Are there any changes since last year?

Yes. Some of the changes include:

  • Ticketed sessions to prevent overcrowding

  • More lunch pick-up lines
