Recommendation form and supplemental letter should be sent to the
department in a sealed envelope. We will accept emailed or faxed
letters if close to the deadline date, however, we request that a
signed original letter follow the email/fax.
This essay describes in detail your research interests, your academic career, your career goals, indicates the faculty member(s) you would like to work with, and if you plan to apply for a graduate assistantship. Students are expected to contact potential faculty advisors to discuss possible research opportunities.
Applicants are required to submit GRE scores (taken within the past five years) for the Doctoral and Master's degree programs. For PhD applicants a minimum score of 500 is expected on both the verbal and quantitative sections of the GRE. If entering with a master's degree, students may submit their written thesis or a draft of their thesis to be evaluated as a demonstration of competence in writing original material and quantitative analyses.
Scores should be sent directly from ETS to the Graduate College. The ISU code is 1322 (photocopies are not accepted).
Official transcripts from all attended universities. The University requires a final transcript showing highest degree conferred or awarded. Transcripts should be sent to the Graduate College.
Though supplemental materials are not required for the application process it is highly recommended that an applicant provide additional materials for the review committee. These documents may consist of: abstracts, conference posters (on regular sized paper), or writing samples.
Please indicated in your Letter of Intent if you wish to be considered for Graduate Assistantship funding and a fee waiver. Funding is typically awarded only for the Fall semester each year.
The TOEFL should be sent directly from ETS,
photocopies are not accepted. Minimum score requirements are:
Paper based 550; computer based 213; and internet based 80.
Submit official academic records (transcripts) and official diploma or certificate demonstrating successful completion of a four-year bachelor degree program to the College of Graduate & Professional Studies. Academic records for all universities attended must be received in English and the native language.
Financial support sufficient to cover the duration of the student's first academic year of educational expenses must be demonstrated before admission is granted and the I-20 eligibility document is issued. Submit an official bank statement or an official financial document for proof of financial resources from all sponsors showing the ability to cover expenses for your first academic year at Indiana State University.
All applicants must supply an Affidavit of Financial Support before admission. Government sponsored applicants must provide an official or certified copy of the award, specifying validity for Indiana State University, listing the expenses and fees covered by the award, beginning and ending dates of study covered, the level/field of study, and the length of the award. The address for billing must also be included.
