Mission Statement

To develop teacher candidates who are committed to the teaching of all children including those from diverse cultural backgrounds and those with a variety of needs. They understand that teaching rural, suburban, and urban children require different, specific skills. Successful pre-service teachers possess the knowledge and dispositions to teach effectively as demonstrated by their performances. They are cognizant of current child development literature and practices, familiar with a number of different teaching pedagogies, creatively engage children, understand learning styles and needs, utilize technology in appropriate ways, communicate clearly with parents and others, and represent the highest ethical standards of the profession. They represent the profession proudly by becoming responsible individuals who contribute meaningfully to the profession and the society in which we live.
