Relationship Management

People construct their self-identity based on the quality and type of relationships they have with others.  The effective development and management of positive relationships is highly correlated with accelerated learning, goal achievement and overall "success" in life.

Cultural challenges experienced by a high percentage of ISU students are such that the many of the requisite skills required to foster and manage effective relationships need to be groomed.  Through modeling the behavior of others, especially faculty and staff members, students can improve their own interpersonal relationship management skills while benefiting from their own experience of positive relationships.

This component of training will focus on techniques to establish and maintain close yet professional relationships with students, peers and other constituents.  Focus will be on the skills of developing rapport, trust, empathy, positive regard, and effective communication, while understanding the personal development that can occur in the lives of others if we are effective in our management of relationships with them.

"Taking the 'lead' in relationship management requires us to 'reach out. extend and accommodate' the other person.  It is through modeling that our students will learn more effective relationship management skills they can apply when they begin to take the lead in managing their own relationships with others."
