Description

Mardel Miller and Michele Boyer, both retired from the Bayh College of Education, traveled through the country by public transportation (trains, buses and boats) visiting all four cultural/lingual regions. Quaint hotels in each of five cities provided "home bases" for their travels. Mardel had wanted to go to Switzerland since her pre-teen years (after she read the book "Heidi"). Although Mardel and Michele did not find Peter or Grandfather, not from the lack of searching, this guided tour did not disappoint. In fact, it exceeded expectations.

In September 2014, Michele and Mardel were fortunate to take a 15-day Road Scholar trip to Switzerland. Escorted by two in-country guides and met at each major point of interest by local guides and lecturers, the tour certainly met the criteria for a lifelong learning experience.

The Road Scholar promotional material gave this brief description: Switzerland¹s rail network winds through 3,000 miles of meadows and mountains, making it the densest railroad system in the world. Travel classic routes through the Swiss Alps, ride the famed Glacier Express and experience the picturesque Swiss-Italian narrow gauge line.

Many more sights and experiences are included on their list of highlights. Our presenters will share what they saw and learned while enjoying the "Splendors of Switzerland".
