Dr. Kiesel completed his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Indiana University in 2007. After graduation he completed an Orthopedic Manual Therapy Residency with Brooks Institute of Higher Learning in Florida.  Prior to moving into academics, Dr. Kiesel practiced primarily in outpatient orthopedics and he is an Orthopedic Certified Specialist and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.  He recently completed a Therapeutic Pain Specialist Certification with a focus on treating individuals with persistent pain and educating the public on the complexities of pain.  He has been involved in clinical research for subacromial impingment, exercise interventions for cervical dysfunction, and blood flow restriction training post-femur fracture.

Dr. Kiesel's clinical & research focus is on active interventions and education to improve treatment for people in pain.  He has a particular passion for translating the current evidence on our understanding of pain and helping others use this to optimize how they move & live.  He is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association's Pain special interest group, and he serves on the INAPTA's Public Relations task force.  Dr. Kiesel is a strong advocate for physical therapy as entry point  into the healthcare system to reduce health care cost and limit the use of unnecessary opioid medications & imaging.
