Expertise and Activity Statement :
Dr. Clauss brings a multi-faceted academic background to her position which encompasses child and family studies as well as education. She finds the complex and interdependent aspects of family life
to be an excellent opportunity for cross-disciplinary analysis and training. With family as the critical element in the preservation of society, teaching about effective family functioning is one of Dr. Clauss’ primary
goals. Changes in teacher licensure in Indiana have required changes in the ways teachers are prepared for their profession. Standards for performance are essential elements of such preparation, and the FCS discipline is
progressive in standards development. Dr. Clauss participates extensively in university and state initiatives to create and maintain cutting edge teacher preparation tools. The dynamic nature of Family and Consumer
Sciences affords ample opportunity for curriculum development, as well.
