Dr. Karen Schmid

Associate Professor,  Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, Family Studies

Degrees: Ph.D. in Family Social Science from the University of Minnesota; M.A. from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale

Expertise and Activity Statement : Dr. Schmid's responsibilities as associate vice president for Academic Affairs include curriculum, assessment, program review, and accreditation.  She provides administrative oversight to the Student Academic Services Center and First-Year Programs.  She has published and presented on assessment, experiential learning, and institutional distinctiveness.  Dr. Schmid recently served as guest co-editor of a special issue of the Journal of Teaching in Marriage and Family on assessment.  She is administrator of a project to strengthen internships and community based learning that was funded for $1 million by the Lilly Endowment.  She also teaches Practicum in Child Development and Family Life.
