Mary Sterling
Assistant Professor, Interior Design
Degrees: M.A. from Central Michigan University and Bachelor of Interior Design from the University of Manitoba
Expertise and Activity Statement :
Mary Sterling teaches Materials and Finishes, Interior Construction and Detailing, and Lighting and Color courses in the sophomore year; Design Studio II and Internship courses in the Junior Year;
Design Studio V, and Professional Practice & Procedures courses in the Senior year
and Internship in the summer. She serves as the ID Program coordinator and encourages all ID students to drop by her office with any questions or suggestions for
program improvement. Mary Sterling is a professional member of the Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC), the Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario (ARIDO), the Interior Designers of Canada (IDC), the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA),
and the International Interior Design Association. She has her National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) certification.
Mary practiced commercial/corporate interior design for twenty-five years
prior to her present teaching position at ISU and maintains her professional practice in the summers. Professional and research pursuits involve
experiential learning, lighting, universal design, green design, and women’s influence in interior
design.
