Office of Student Financial Aid

Financial Aid Checklist

  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon after January 1st as you can. Early application is the key to receiving some types of aid.

  • Keep copies of taxes and FAFSA answers available in case the Office of Student Financial Aid needs to review them later.

  • Review the Student Aid Report (SAR) you receive from the U.S. Department of Education for accuracy.

  • Follow the instructions to make corrections if necessary.

  • Keep all copies of your SAR for your records.

  • Submit any additional paperwork requested by the Office of Student Financial Aid.

  • Notice will be sent on your MyISU Portal or by mail. Typically this may include a need for signed copies of the taxes used for the FAFSA and a Verification Worksheet. Occasionally other documents may be required as well.

  • Confirm you have been fully admitted as an ISU degree-seeking student. This is required for you to be considered for aid.

  • Review your Financial Aid Notification, which shows the aid you qualify for.

  • Be certain that you understand the conditions of the awards you accept.

  • Adhere to deadlines and your Satisfactory Academic Progress standards.

  • If accepting a student loan, complete and submit the required Promissory Note to the lending agency.

  • Complete the Entrance Interview required before borrowing your first loan at ISU. This can be done on-line from our web site.

  • To receive Federal Work Study, if offered, you must find a job through the interview process. Check for student workers positions available at www.indstate.edu/humres.

  • Advise the Office of Student Financial Aid immediately if you receive an award or financial aid from any other source. A change in your resources may affect your financial aid.

  • Check your MyISU Portal account five days before a semester begins to confirm your financial aid has paid appropriately. Contact our office with any discrepancies.

  • Confirm your school account is paid in full. Take any payments needed to complete your account to the Office of the Controller in Parsons Hall 100 when due.

  • Notify the Office of the Registration and Records and the Office of Student Financial Aid of your new address and phone number if you move.

  • Remember that you must reapply for financial aid each year. The Indiana priority deadline is March 10th annually, but we recommend that you complete your FAFSA at least by March 1st to avoid any deadline problems associated with other types of limited aid.

If you have questions contact our office. We’re here to help you.
