Federal PIN Number

Your federal PIN is your identifier to let you sign your FAFSA electronically and access personal information in various U.S. Department of Education systems. You can request a PIN, request a replacement PIN, or update your PIN mailing address at the USDE's PIN site at: www.pin.ed.gov.

You can use your PIN to:

  1. Gain access to FAFSA on the Web;
  2. Use the PIN as an electronic signature to sign the FAFSA or obtain a copy of your FAFSA information;
  3. Make online corrections to your FAFSA; and/or
  4. Review your online grant and loan history on the National Student Loan Data System at www.nslds.ed.gov.

Because your PIN serves as your electronic signature, you should not give it to anyone.

Parents of dependent students will also need a PIN for them to sign their student's FAFSA electronically. They apply for their PIN number the same way at www.pin.ed.gov.
