Nursing Scholarship


The Nursing Scholarship Fund was created by the 1990 Indiana General Assembly to encourage and promote qualified individuals to pursue nursing careers in Indiana.


Eligibility


To be eligible students must do the following:

  1. Be fully admitted as a nursing student;
  2. Submit an application to the State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana;
  3. Reside in Indiana;
  4. Agree, in writing, to work as a nurse in an Indiana health care setting for at least the first two (2) years following graduation, as a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse providing direct patient care in the following locations:

    a.  An acute care or specialty hospital;
    b.  A long-term care facility;
    c.  A rehabilitation care facility;
    e.  A home healthcare entity;
    e.  A hospice program;
    f.  A mental health facility; or
    g.  A facility located in a shortage area (as defined in IC 16-46-5-6);

  5. Demonstrate a financial need by filing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year;
  6. Maintain the minimum grade point average (GPA) needed to remain in the nursing program; and
  7. Remain in good standing on all federally-sponsored student loans.

ISU Nursing Scholarship Criteria:

  1. Preference given to FAFSA filling date;
  2. Must maintain satisfactory academic standing and fully admitted as full-time student in nursing program;
  3. Must meet all criteria as set forth by SSACI for Nursing Scholarship;
  4. Must apply to SSACI for scholarship by August 1 of current year;
  5. Must demonstrate financial need after federal and institutional grants and scholarships are awarded.

Amount


The maximum annual scholarship is $5,000 and may only be applied towards tuition and fees.

Renewal


Scholars must:

  1. Maintain the GPA required by the college for admission into its nursing program;
  2. Maintain a GPA of at least 2.0 on a scale of 4.0 or the equivalent if there is no minimum at the college;
  3. Reapply each year;
  4. Complete the nursing program within six (6) years from the time the first scholarship is received.

Those who fail to fulfill the terms of their scholarship agreement may be required to reimburse the State of Indiana for the full amount of the scholarships plus administrative costs.
