Take Back the night 2008

Mark your calendars! On Monday, November 17 students will be putting on the 2008 annual “Take Back the Night” rally and march to help raise awareness about violence against the women.  In the weeks leading up the event, students will be working towards a fundraising goal of $5,000 for Terre Haute’s Council on Domestic Abuse (CODA), which is an organization that provides shelter and resources to victims of domestic abuse. We will be selling t-shirts and doing various fundraising activities around the Terre Haute and ISU communities. If you would like to make a monetary donation, checks should be made payable to CODA and can be mailed to or dropped off at the following address:

ISU General Education
Rhodes Hall Mezzanine
Terre Haute, IN  47809

Remember, it’s in your hands to help stop violence against women. Please join us this year and help Take Back the Night!

Also, feel free to  join our Facebook Event for Take Back the Night if you are a registered user of the Facebook Community and invite your friends– the event is titled “TAKE BACK THE NIGHT 2008”

hull house Service learning trip (chicago, Illinois)

The Hull House Service Learning trip is an opportunity for students from a variety of majors to collaborate on a social justice service-learning project.  This service-learning experience centers around Jane Addams and Hull House, the settlement house she founded.  The intended student outcomes include a more sophisticated understanding of civic and political action, as well as differing conceptions of approaches to social justice.  At the end of the service learning experience we expect students, among other things, to be more informed and responsibly involved with their relevant communities and to have the appreciation of the global dimensions of many issues.

This year's Hull House Service Learning Trip is scheduled for Friday, September 26-Sunday, September 28.  The cost to students is $100.00.  Please contact Crystal Brown at the Center for Public Service and Community Engagement to sign up for the trip.
