Information for academic advisors about NEW Math Placement

We are officially (and finally) making a complete move to Maple TA as our math placement test for all students. To date, we have continued to use COMPASS for continuing and returning students. However, beginning on October 15, any student who requires math placement testing will be directed to take the Maple TA test.
Advising information for math placement testing:
(1) New students will continue to be asked to complete Maple TA during the spring and summer before attending Orientation. Those students who have not done so will complete the test during Orientation.
(2) Continuing and returning students who need to take the math placement test should be directed to the University Testing website. Students should click on "placement testing" and follow the instructions for the math placement test. They will be directed to take a practice test first before proceeding to the actual test. They may take the practice test as many times as they'd like. It is preferred that students take the actual test only once. However, in exceptional cases when the student believes that their test score does not represent their true ability, they will be allowed to take the test again.
(3) If students experience difficulty in navigating the website or in taking the test, they should contact the University Testing Office at X7666.
(4) Maple TA test scores will be uploaded to Banner on SOATEST.
Interpretation of Maple TA scores:
Scores of 0-3 = Math 010
Scores of 4-6 = Math 011
Scores of 7-11 = Math 102 or Math 111
Scores of 12-20 = Math 112 or Math 115
Scores of 21-30 = Math 122 or Math 131
