Undergraduate Programs

The Department of Geography at Indiana State University offers a Bachelors of Arts or a Bachelors of Science degree in several disciplines.  Geography majors may specialize in physical geography, human geography or geographic techniques.  In addition to the undergraduate degree we offer a Master of Arts and a PH.D. degree in Geography.  Starting Fall 2006 and ending in Fall 2007 the departments combined general education courses’ and saw a total of 6,515 students enrolled. 

 

The main objectives of the programs in geography are to provide research experience in geospatial sciences, provide a strong educational foundation in the core area of geography and prepare students for academic, professional careers.   After completion of the program students are prepared for careers in the following fields: geographic education, geographic information science and remote sensing, environmental and economic resources, and governmental agencies.  Students finishing the graduate program have been successful obtaining jobs in governmental agencies such as NASA, CIA, ESRI, ERDAS, and environmental firms. 

 

The undergraduate degree in geography offers three main concentration areas of specialization: Human Geography, Physical Geography, and Geographic Information.  Geography faculty members advise approximately 30 undergraduate students that are enrolled in the program.

The geography graduate program offers two degrees. The Master of Arts has two distinct tracts the first being a thesis and the second a two-paper option.  The second degree offered is a PHD in Geography.  In the combined geography degrees there are 31 active enrolled graduate students.
