The Geology B.S. and M.S. Program at ISU provides hands-on field and laboratory experiences, with helpful, one-on-one guidance from faculty mentors. The diverse array of faculty ensures that students get broad training in the traditional geology disciplines and in earth science-related fields such as environmental geology, geochemistry, Quaternary sciences, paleoceanography, paleoecology, and geobiology. All of our faculty conduct field research, and serve as student mentors. Most undergraduate majors and all of our graduate students have research projects involving lab and field-oriented research. Many of the courses and research projects involve environmental issues and provide students with strong backgrounds for positions in environmentally oriented fields. The Geology Program at ISU provides more experience, excitement, and adventure from day one.
The Anthropology Program offers a B.S./B.A. degree with instruction in cultural anthropology, archaeology and biological anthropology. There are a wide range of hands-on field and laboratory experiences available to students. The Anthropology faculty are involved in environmentally oriented research projects like forensic anthropology, geoarchaeology, and behavioral ecology. We encourage undergraduates to work with faculty mentors on field or laboratory research projects. Upon completion of their degrees, anthropology majors at ISU are prepared to work in the government or private sector or go on to obtain advanced degrees in anthropology or related fields.
The Geography Program offers B.S./B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees with training in physical and human geography. Geography uses state of the art real world technologies such as remote sensing, global positioning (GPS) and geographic information systems (GIS) to analyze our changing world and explore relationship between the natural and built environment and human societies. Geography uses an integrative approach to understand and identify a diverse set of patterns caused by both social and physical pressures.
The department offers graduate degrees in Earth and Quaternary Sciences (MS), and Geography (MA and PhD). Application procedures and requirements

Research opportunities exist at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The programs encourage interdisciplinary research projects and maintain collaborative relationships with faculty from other departments and universities as well as with government agencies and private industries. State-of-the-art equipment and laboratories are available for student use. We offer a number of undergraduate scholarships and graduate teaching assistantships. Travel support is also available for undergraduate and graduate students to present their research at professional meetings.
