Research Interests
Dr. Berta is
the Chairperson of the Department of Geography,
Geology and Anthropology and has served in that
capacity since August 2004. She served as
interim chairperson from July 2002 through
August 2004. Dr. Berta is also an associate
member of the Indiana State University Center
for Remote Sensing and Geographic Information
Systems Laboratory (ISURSL); she served as
Director from 1994-2002 and has been affiliated
with the laboratory since 1986. Her primary
areas of research include geomorphology, remote
sensing, and landscape/environmental modeling.
Research activities in remote sensing have
involved periglacial landform analyses (rock
glacier identification); vertebrate habitat
mapping; metadata development and implementation
for Indiana; NatureMapping for Indiana; and
vegetation modeling for the Indiana Gap Analysis
Project (IN GAP). Currently, she is involved
with the Year 2000 biodiversity of Indiana
inventory for the State of Indiana, Department
of Natural Resources.
