Graduate program > More detailsundergraduate programMajor Minor Course Descriptions Undergraduate Brochure Climate Lab Brochure The undergraduate degree in geography offers three main concentration areas of specialization: Human Geography, Physical Geography, and Geographic Information. Geography faculty members advise approximately 30 undergraduate students that are enrolled in the program.
Students completing the undergraduate program in
physical geography
will be prepared to obtain jobs in environmental consulting, emergency
management planning, climatology, and prepare students for higher
education.
Students completing the undergraduate program in
human
geography
will be prepared to obtain jobs in economic development, data
managements, and land use planning and prepare students for higher
education
Students completing the undergraduate program in
geographic techniques
will be prepared to obtain jobs in remote sensing, cartography, and
geography information systems and prepare students for higher education.

Students minoring in climatology must select their additional 9 hours from courses other than in their major. Core requirements for the minor are: 4 hours of Principles of biology I (BIOL 101), 4 hours of Principles of Biology II (BIOL 102), 3 hours of survey of the Plant Kingdom (BIOL 113), 3 hours of humans and world Environment (BIOL 455), 3 hours of physical environment (GEOG 111), 3 hours of conservation (GEOG 411), 3 hours of physical geology (GEOL 170), and 3 hours of Recreation and Sports Management Introduction to Outdoor education (RCSM 361). geographic information science18 credit hour minimum to obtain a minor in GIS. Core requirements for the minor are: 3 hours of Cartography (GEOG 112) or, 3 hours of Automated Cartography (GEOG 446), and 3 hours of intro to quantitative geography (GEOG 240), plus one course -3 credit hours - from 3 hours of Fundamentals of Remote Sensing (GEOG 405), 3 hours of Remote Sensing: Image development and interpretation (GEOG 406), 3 hours of Remote Sensing: Digital analysis of spectral data (GEOG 407), or 3 hours of Remote Sensing: Digital Analysis (GEOG 408), one course -3 credit hours - from 3 hours of Geographic information systems (GEOG 442), 3 hours of Processing of spatial data for Geoscientists (GEOG 444), and two courses from the remaining directed geography electives of courses not taken from above classes - GEOG 405, GEOG 406, GEOG 407, GEOG 408, GEOG 442, GEOG 444 GEOG 490. |
