Academic Advisement

Indiana State University is committed to providing quality advising.



Overview


All students seeking graduate degrees or programs are assigned academic advisors. 
Students can determine their assigned advisors by consulting the college, the department, or their DARS 
report (instructions below). 



Advising is a central component of success.  Students who work closely with their advisors 
are more likely to meet their goals and achieve academic success. Students should maintain regular contact with their advisors, and 
are expected to work with their advisors prior to registration each semester to ensure the proper sequencing of courses.  






Application for Change in Advisor


To initiate a change in advisors, graduate students must print and complete this application for change in advisors 
and obtain the signatures of their current and new advisors, department chairs, and staff in the College of Graduate and Professional 
Studies.




Degree Audit Reporting System (DARS)


Students should run a DARS report each semester to use during the advising and registration period for the next term. 
The DARS report provides students with a current account of courses taken (along with credit hours and grades earned), and also 
indicates remaining deficiencies in students' declared programs. Currently, DARS reports are available for all master's, licensure, and 
certificate program.  For information on doctoral programs, students should refer to the 
graduate catalog or consult their academic advisors. 



To run a DARS report:


    

  1. Log on to the MyISU Portal.  

    2. 

  2. Click the "Student Tab." 

    3. 

  3. Select "DARS Menu." 

    4. 

  4. Select "Submit an Audit" and then follow the instructions.

    5. 



Note:  Students are encouraged to review their DARS report each term, report 
any inaccuracies or questions to their academic advisors, and use the report to plan for program completion. DARS is a tool for students and advisors to use to help track 
progress toward program completion. It is not a substitute for academic advising, nor does it certify students for graduation.
