Faculty Profile

After graduating from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and teaching for a year at Laurentius-Gymnasium in Neuendettelsau, Germany, Steven Stofferahn earned his M.A. and Ph.D. at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.  Since joining the Indiana State University faculty in 2004, he has developed courses ranging from the ancient world to medieval and early modern Europe, as well as a seminar on European women’s history.  In addition to publishing numerous articles on early medieval intellectual and political culture in Réflexions Historiques, Early Medieval Europe, The Historian, The Heroic Age, and other scholarly journals, Dr. Stofferahn has co-edited Discovery and Distinction in the Early Middle Ages: Studies in Honor of John J. Contreni.  He is currently at work on a monograph, provisionally titled Forsaken and Redeemed: Exile in the Early Middle Ages.
