I have an event in or close to Hulman Memorial Student
Union,
where can my guests park?
We have two visitors pay parking lots on the north and south side of HMSU. Our hours of operation are flexible and vary between the two lots.
One lot has the capacity to hold 36 cars while the larger lot holds up to 130 cars.
-
What are the differences
between the two lots?
The Commons Visitor Lot, located at 5th & Chestnut, is a small short-term
parking lot (36 cars). If the duration of your stay is two hours or less, this is a great place to park. For
example, if you park 10 minutes or less, there is no charge; and 15 minutes
would only cost you 25 cents. This lot would NOT be the place to park all
day.
The University Visitor Lot, located at 5th & Spruce, is a larger lot (130 cars) intended for half or full day parking. The rates include a
maximum fee of $5.00 per car/per day. This lot is great for conferences or all
day meetings.
-
Do my guests have to pay? Can the fee be
charged to our
department?
Both lots are pay parking but we can set up an account for your department so
that your guests do not have to pay. The fees will be charged to your
account and an intramural voucher/invoice will be generated at the end of each
month and sent directly to you. If you are interested in setting up an
account. Complete and fax the
Parking Contract (PDF) to 812-237-2344.
-
How do I validate tickets so my department is
only charged
for
my guests?
Your department can validate the dispenser tickets and the fees will be
charged to your department's account or conference budget. The methods to validate can be departmental stamp,
authorized signature, or small coupon whichever is more convenient for
you and your event. Since each event is unique we work with you to
design a system that is hassle-free for you and your guests. Contact the
HMSU Parking office to find
out your options.
-
How will my department be billed for the parking charges?
At the end of each month, your department's charges will be totaled and
an invoice/intramural voucher will be mailed to you.
-
What happens if the lot
is full when my guests arrive?
If you have made arrangements with us for your guests to park in the lot
and it is full, we will issue them blue temporary visitor hang tags. These tags allow them to park in either a student
or staff lot close by.
-
What can we do if parking arrangements were not made
but some
of
our guests have parked in the lot?
We will work with your department when this happens. If you wish to have
your guest's tickets validated, just call us with the name of the guests. We can
charge it to your existing departmental account or set up a new one if necessary.
An invoice will be mailed to you
for the parking fee.
-
My guests are still parked in the lot and the booth is
closed. What
do
we do now?
Your guests will be able to exit the lot as the gate
arm will rise as they pull toward it. If they have a violation ticket
for staying past close, you may contact the
HMSU Parking Office within three business days
and we will void the ticket and charge either the department or the guest the actual parking fee.
-
One of my guests received a parking violation ticket while
parked in the lot. Why did this happen? What can I do to
take care of it?
Parking fees are collected when the car exits the
lot. Therefore, guests have to be out of the lot prior to the close of each business day
unless prior arrangement have been made. After hours, cars can pull toward the gate and it will rise allowing them to leave the lot for
free.
The violation ticket is a deterrent so cars will either leave before we close or
make arrangements to stay later when they enter the lot.
Signs are posted in several locations with the hours of operation and a warning that cars will be ticketed after hours. However, should your guest receive a ticket, we can take care of it if it is brought to our attention within three business days from the date of the
ticket. We can VOID the ticket and charge either the department or the
guest the actual parking fee.
-
What if I have made arrangements for one lot and my
guests
parked in the other lot?
We will work with you in this situation. If you have made arrangements
for your guests to park in the North lot because it is an all day event but they
inadvertently park in the South lot, we will make adjustments to the fee so you
are not charged the full South lot rate.
-
Who do I call to make Visitor parking arrangements with
HMSU?
To make your parking arrangements for the HMSU parking lots, either
complete the Parking Request Form
or contact
Lu Ann Reynolds, HMSU, Room
215, 812-237-3814, Monday through
Friday, 8:00 a.m.- 4:30p.m.
-
How far in advance do I need to make my request?
Requests are taken on a first
come/first serve basis. Advance request minimize problems and will ensure that your organization is the first one to request the lot for that day.
-
What services other than parking spaces do you provide?
The booth is staffed by our parking associates who can
answer questions and give directions as needed. At your request, large directional signs can
be posted to assist in locating the correct lot and welcoming your guests to
campus. We also have parking maps that can be sent to you to include with your
invitations.
