course descriptionThis course covers three main topics: The rise of Nixon, Watergate itself (including Nixon’s resignation and his pardon by Gerald Ford), and Nixon’s later attempts to rehabilitate his image. Readings include books, articles, primary materials such as court and congressional documents. Numerous videos sources, including everything from speeches and satirical treatments of the period to full-length feature films. Each student conducts extensive research on one of the key players in the era. That student, in effect, becomes the “class expert” on that particular character. Additional assignments could include film reaction papers, journaling, and reports on “outside” readings. |
