What are your career goals, and why?
I want to be an elementary school teacher, preferably third grade, because I love to work with kids. It is my passion. I want to help them learn and grow. Also I want to them to know that learning can be fun.
What hobbies or interests do you have?
I enjoy watching movies and just hanging out with friends in the lobby. I love to work out! Also, I enjoy playing soccer whenever I get the chance.
What other leadership roles do you have and/or what else are you involved with on campus or in the local community?
I am a small group leader in Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. I was involved in L.E.A.F. during my freshmen year. I am in the Honors Program here at ISU and I am also a President’s Scholar.
What was your favorite Honors class so far, and why?
I think my favorite Honors class was Honors 201: Television and Culture, because Darlene Hantzis basically just let us talk about the articles we had to read the entire time. We had really good discussions and I learned a lot. I don’t think I will be able to watch TV in the same way again.
What do you like most about being an Honors student?
I like priority scheduling the most about being an Honors student, because we get to make sure we are in the classes that we need to get in for the next semester before they fill up.
What advice do you have for first-year Honors students about easing the transition from home to ISU?
Honestly, I would say to go out and make friends! You will have the chance to meet all kinds of people and just staying in your room is not the best idea. Just go out and try new things and through that you will meet new people.
What advice do you have for first-year Honors students about time management?
Make sure you have a schedule for how and when you plan to do homework. Doing homework at the last minute is not the answer! You need to make time to chill also. Spending ALL your time on work can really burn you out.
What advice do you have for first-year Honors students about dealing with stress?
When you are dealing with stress, a really good technique to relieve that stress would be to release that pent-up energy somewhere else, such as working out. It may not sound like it helps, but it does help you relax a little bit. Working out and being active makes you want to continue the hard work in your studies.
What other general advice do you have for first-year Honors students?
Grades are not everything. Work hard for yours grades, but stressing over them and trying for perfection will only make you more stressed. Get involved on campus and get to know your professors.
