What hobbies or interests do you have?
I enjoy playing music of a variety of instruments as well as listening to good music as I study. Also, when I find a good book it is hard to get me to do anything else.
What other leadership roles do you have and/or what else are you involved with on campus or in the local community?
I am currently involved as a member of Sycamore Ambassadors, Indiana State Sycamores Council of Teachers of Mathematics, Alpha Lambda Delta, and Golden Key. I also am a member of a program called GO Figure that is hosted at the Terre Haute Children’s Museum.
What was your favorite Honors class so far, and why?
My favorite honors class was Television and Culture because we looked at past and current programs that influence our culture and researched different topics that interested each of the students individually and shared them in class and was exciting to see what everybody found.
What do you like most about being an Honors student?
The honors program provides opportunities that every student does not get to experience. I enjoy being able to be challenged in the classroom and talk one on one with guest speakers that come to campus.
What advice do you have for first-year Honors students about easing the transition from home to ISU?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions if you have them. Everybody on campus is here to help you succeed so do not hesitate to ask your professors, upperclassmen, and other honors students for help relating to anything.
What advice do you have for first-year Honors students about time management?
Know what your professors expect from the start of the class and ensure that you complete all of your assignments on time. Likewise, find activities on campus and in the community that interest you, but make sure that they do not over consume your time, because you should always save some time to relax and hang out with friends.
What advice do you have for first-year Honors students about dealing with stress?
There is a time in the semester when stress is high. Try to complete assignments as early as possible and do not let them pile up on each other. Using a calendar or planner will help you view what is due within a week or even a month.
What other general advice do you have for first-year Honors students?
Go to class, do your work, and have fun. Enjoy the freedom but set your own goals and be sure to set aside time to do activities you enjoy and just relax with friends!
