Inclusive Excellence Awards

The President’s Council on Inclusive Excellence (PCOIE), in collaboration with the Office of the President, has established the Indiana State Inclusive Excellence Awards. The purpose of this award is to recognize the importance of equity and diversity and to encourage its advancement at the institution and in the Terre Haute/Wabash Valley Community.  It is important to recognize the contribution of our campus community in the great works that go forth daily to ensure our campus community does more than just speak of inclusive excellence, but practices inclusive excellence.  Award recipients are presented by the President of the university at her fall address annually.  The nomination period for this award opens on May 15, 2019 and runs through August 1, 2019.

Award Criteria:

This award is designed to recognize significant contribution toward creating a diverse, inclusive, equitable, and/or socially just community. Nominees should exhibit one or more of the following criteria in their daily works:

  • Establishing diversity and inclusiveness into a structural/institutional aspect of ISU or the Terre Haute/Wabash Valley Community (e.g., policy, procedure, tradition, vision statement, curriculum, assessment activity, accountability measure, outreach effort, professional development, etc.)
  • Recruitment and retention of an excellent and diverse staff, faculty, or student body
  • Fostering equal opportunity within the campus or the Terre Haute/Wabash Valley Community
  • Encouraging or giving voice to diverse perspectives
  • Creating a welcoming and supporting campus or the Terre Haute/Wabash Valley Community environment
  • Scholarly endeavors or creative activities (e.g., art, music, theater)
  • Other areas critical to establishing inclusive excellence at ISU or in the Terre Haute/Wabash Valley Community

​Nominations:

  • A complete nomination packet includes: an application, and two (2) letters of recommendation..
  • The deadline to submit a completed nomination packet is August 1, 2019.  Incomplete and late submissions will not considered.
  • Self-nominations are welcomed.

STUDENT AWARD

The Indiana State Inclusive Excellence Award (Student) is presented annually to one ISU undergraduate or graduate student currently enrolled demonstrating outstanding commitment to the advancement of excellence through diversity and inclusion at the University. The term diversity and inclusion is defined as activities that examine and address where organizational cultures, structures, policies, and/or practices impact equity and belonging for the members of a community. This award is designed to recognize a student who “leads the way” with respect to this topic, particularly in circumstances where what they do transcends specific positional responsibilities or what may already be a norm or organizational practice. ISU students of any level or attendance status (i.e., full- or part-time) who are currently enrolled and have been for at least the current and previous term are eligible for the award.

FACULTY/STAFF AWARD

The Indiana State Inclusive Excellence Award (Faculty/Staff) is presented annually to one faculty or staff member at ISU demonstrating outstanding commitment to the advancement of excellence through diversity and inclusion via innovative teaching, service, and/or program execution. The term diversity and inclusion is defined as activities that examine and address where organizational cultures, structures, policies, and/or practices impact equity and belonging for the members of a community. This award is designed to recognize a person who “leads the way” with respect to this topic, particularly in circumstances where what he or she does transcends specific job responsibilities or what may already be a norm or unit practice. ISU faculty or staff of any rank, classification, or employment status (i.e., full- or part-time) are eligible for this award.

STUDENT ORGANIZATION AWARD

The Indiana State Inclusive Excellence Award (Student Organization) is presented annually to any registered ISU student organization that has demonstrated outstanding leadership in promoting and/or sustaining innovative diversity and inclusion efforts within the ISU campus community. The term diversity and inclusion is defined as activities that examine and address where organizational cultures, structures, policies, and/or practices impact equity and belonging for the members of a community. This award is designed to recognize a student organization that “leads the way” with respect to this topic, particularly in circumstances where what they do transcends what might be considered standard organizational norms or practice.

ADMINISTRATIVE/ACADEMIC UNIT AWARD

The Indiana State Inclusive Excellence Award (Administrative/Academic Unit) is presented annually to one ISU administrative or academic unit that has demonstrated outstanding leadership in promoting and/or sustaining innovative diversity and inclusion efforts within the ISU campus community. The term diversity and inclusion is defined as activities that examine and address where organizational cultures, structures, policies, and/or practices impact equity and belonging for the members of a community. This award is designed to recognize a unit that “leads the way” with respect to this topic, particularly in circumstances where what they do transcends what might be considered standard organizational norms or practice. Any officially recognized administrative or academic unit is eligible for this award.​

COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION AWARD

 The Indiana State Inclusive Excellence Award (Administrative/Academic Unit) is presented annually to any organization within the Terre Haute/Wabash Valley community that has demonstrated outstanding leadership in promoting and/or sustaining innovative diversity and inclusion efforts that impact ISU and/or the community. The term diversity and inclusion is defined as activities that examine and address where organizational cultures, structures, policies, and/or practices impact equity and belonging for the members of a community. This award is designed to recognize an organization that “leads the way”
