Tenth annual Mini-Med School kicks off Feb. 8

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Indiana University School of Medicine - Terre Haute Center offers a chance to learn about common health concerns during the tenth annual Mini Medical School, Feb. 8 through April 19. This program is free of charge and open to the general public.

Mini Medical School provides an interactive forum to discuss medical training, procedures and concerns. The public may chose to attend one, some or all of nine weekly sessions, each focusing on a different topic.

Speakers will appear as a panel of health care providers. The panels for each two-hour session will be composed of health care professionals and other health care specialists typically involved in the diagnosis and treatment of the symptom or condition under consideration. Panelists will work together to present a comprehensive picture of how the symptoms lead to a diagnosis and how the initial diagnosis is distinguished from other diseases that may share similar symptoms. Following a 40 to 50 minute panel presentation and a refreshment break, a moderator will present written and oral questions from the audience related to the eveningšs topic. The forum is not intended to provide diagnosis of specific disease concerns of the public, but to suggest the paths needed for consumers to resolve their medical questions.

Sessions are scheduled for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. each Tuesday. The first session on prostate cancer will be presented at the Hyte Center, located at 1101 S. 13th Street in Terre Haute. The remaining eight sessions will be presented at the Landsbaum Center for Health Education, located at 1433 N. 6th Street.

Sessions are free but reservations are recommended due to limited seating. For more information, or to make a reservation, call the Office of Public Service and Community Engagement at 812-237-4011, or 1-800-234-1639.
