Mitchell, Krasnican to perform Oct. 24 at ISU
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Music faculty members Randy Mitchell and Martha Krasnican will present "Sliding Around the World," a faculty trombone recital as part of the Indiana State University Faculty Artist Series at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24 in the Recital Hall of ISUšs Center for Performing and Fine Arts.
The program will feature trombone music from Holland, Denmark, Hawaii, China and the United States. This past June, Mitchell spent two weeks as a guest artist in residence, teaching trombone and low brass students at the Shenyang Conservatory of Music in Shenyang, China. Bai Fei, the trombone professor, presented Mitchell with his composition "Wonderful Memory," which was performed on a June recital by Mitchell at the Shenyang Conservatory. The performance of Bai Fei's composition will be its premier in the United States.
Other compositions performed will be Danish composer Launy Grøndahl's "Concerto for Trombone"; Dutch composer Jan Koetsier's "Concertino for Trombone"; "Extase" by Hawaiian composer Emmett Yoshioka; and American Composer Eric Ewazen's "Ballad for Trombone."
A native of Evansville and an alumnus of Indiana State University with a degree in music education, Mitchell holds degrees from the University of Louisville and the University of North Texas in trombone performance.
Principal trombone with the Terre Haute Symphony, Champaign/Urbana and Danville Symphony Orchestras, Mitchell also has performed in the New Louisville Brass Quintet, Louisville Orchestra, South Bend Symphony, the Kentucky Opera Association Orchestra and the Maximus Jazz Orchestra. He has performed for such artists as Vic Damone, Nancy Wilson, Brenda Lee, Boots Randolph, Floyd Cramer, Barbara Eden, Marilyn McCoo and Liza Minelli among others.
Krasnican is the director of the accompanying program at ISU and principal keyboardist with the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra. She graduated with distinction from the Eastman School of Music. As a collaborative artist, she has worked with major performers across North America and Europe, including engagements with the Western Horn Symposium and several World Saxophone Congresses. Krasnican has performed as a soloist with the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra, premiering two piano concertos written for her by her husband, Daniel Powers.
