University Art Gallery to host ISU alumni exhibit

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Indiana State University Art Gallery will host "Re...Convene, Collect, Create: ISU Alumni Exhibition," featuring the works of 11 ISU art department alumni Sept. 27 through Oct. 22.

Re...Convene, Collect, Create: ISU Alumni Exhibition will feature a variety of work including photographs, graphic design, prints, paintings, sculptures, ceramics, and video. Alumni participating in this exhibition include Susan Hicks Bryant (MFA '78) who is currently teaching at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN; Donna Dene English (MFA '87) who taught at St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in West Terre Haute before taking leave to raise her child; Matthew Friday (MFA '98) currently teaching at the State University of New York at Oswego; S. Clay Furches (MFA '89) and Kaiti Slater (MFA '89) who are teaching at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, UT; Kat Galloway (MFA '98) currently teaching at Eastern Oregon University in La Grande, OR; Cheryl Hahn (BS '70) an artist, writer and curator from Allyn, WA; Mark Hall (MFA '83) who is chair of the Division of Fine Arts at Maryville College in Maryville, TN; Scott Johnson (BFA '80) co-owner of Dean Johnson Design in Indianapolis; James Klueg (MFA '84) currently serving as head of the Ceramics Department at the University of Minnesota-Duluth; and Jim Viewegh (MFA '98) who is currently at the University of Indianapolis.

These artists, all at different stage of their careers, have chosen to return to their alma mater to share their most recent work and participate in the gallery year-long pursuit of "Connecting the Present to the Past."

"Through this presentation, and the planned panel discussion, we hope to make a meaningful connection between the Department of Art's past and its present," Kaz McCue, director of the University Art Gallery, said. "These artists are all excellent examples to put in front of our students and they should serve to inspire our current students."

The Gallery will host an artists' reception Thursday, Oct. 20 from 5-7 p.m. Refreshments and snacks will be served. Also that evening, there will also be an alumni panel discussion beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall, also located in the Center for Performing and Fine Arts. Both events are free and open to the public and the university and local communities are encouraged to attend.

The University Art Gallery is open to the public Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Thursday from 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. The gallery will also be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for ISU's homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 22. The gallery is located in the Center for Performing and Fine Arts on Chestnut Street at North 7th Street.
