Create a New Subweb and Configure Unique Permissions
Managing a Subweb
Introduction
A restricted-access web is a website that only specific users are allowed
to view. FrontPage does not support the restricting of pages, sections, or
folders within a web.
To set up a restricted-access web in FrontPage, you must create a subweb and
configure unique permissions for the subweb.
A subweb is a web nested inside another web. By default, all subwebs inherit
the same permission settings as their parent webs. However, you can
establish unique permissions for subwebs. Each subweb can have its own set
of permissions that specify who can browse, author, or administer it, and
you can set up individual subwebs with different levels of permissions and
different groups of users.
The following are instructions on how to create a subweb and set unique
permissions in Microsoft FrontPage 2002 on ISU Unix web servers (www, isu,
sapphire). Login to your web account using FrontPage (Instructions
to login).
Create a New Subweb and Configure Unique Permissions
Creating a subweb involves the following steps:
1. In the "Tools" menu, go to "Server" and
click on
"Administration Home".
 2. Clicking on the
Administration Home will open up a browser and a dialog box asking for the
username and password for your account as shown below. Type in the username
and password, and click on OK.

3. Following the 2nd step will open up the Website Administration Page for
your account. Scroll down to go to the
"Subwebs" section on the Administration Page. You will see a screen as shown
below:

4.
To create a new subweb click on the "Create a subweb" hyperlink under the Subwebs section. You will
see two sections to be filled out to create a subweb.
- Create a New Subweb
To create a new subweb specify a name in the textbox under 'Name'.
- Permissions
Your new subweb can either use the same permissions as the parent web, or
use unique permissions.
If you select Use same permissions as parent web, you are not
required to supply a username and password, the subweb uses the same
username and password as your main web.
If you select Use unique permissions for this web, you must also
specify an administrator user name and password for the new subweb.

Managing a Subweb
1. After following the above steps if you scroll down to
the 'Subweb' section, the new subweb that was just created should be listed
under the section that lists 'Subweb name' and 'URL'. To manage the subweb settings
for a particular subweb click on the
subweb name to view the Administration Page.

2. A dialog box will open up asking for the username and password after you
click on the subweb name.
If you had the same permissions as the parent web for this subweb, type in
the same username and password as your web account.
If you had unique permissions set up for this subweb, type in the
administrator username and password for the subweb. Below is a screenshot of
the dialog box that opens up.

3. To add more users to the subweb, and to assign roles to users, go to the
'Users and Roles' section of the Administration Page for the subweb. To add
a new user, click on 'Manage users'.

4. Clicking on 'Manage users' takes you to a page where
you can add a user/delete selected user(s).

5. To add a user, click on the "Add a user" link. You will see two sections
to be filled out to create a new user.
-
User
Add a new user account. Under this section enter a username, password,
and confirm the password for the new user.
-
User Role
Choose a role or roles for this user from the existing options of being
an Administrator, Advanced author, Author, and Browser.
(If you want the users to view the pages but not make any
changes to the webpages, select the "Browser" option.)
After filling out the above information, click on 'Add
User' button. A screenshot for 'Add a user' is shown below:

6. Use this subweb to put any files that need to be secured.
(Remember, these userids and passwords are for your use in restricting access
to your webpages and have nothing to do with logging in or accessing the
server in general.)
