Undergraduate (Teaching) Curricula

The Bachelor of Science degree in Career and Technical Education requires 82 semester hours of work, 52 semester hours in the major and 30 semester hours in the teaching curriculum through the School of Education. In addition, 47-50 semester hours of General Education is required to complete the degree.

This major may be added to the Senior High-Junior High/Middle School Instructional License and provides coverage at all grade levels.

Admission to the Teacher Education Program

The student must hold a baccalaureate degree with a minimum calculative GPA of 2.5 or greater and no grade below C in the professional education courses. Licensing in the State of Indiana requires passing the PRAXIS I (PPST or CPPST) and the relevant PRAXIS II test--Content Specialty. The student must pass all sections of PRAXIS I in order to take Phase II, III, IV courses. The student must take all relevant PRAXIS II tests and score within one standard measure of the State score in order to take Phase IV courses. Admission to the Teacher Education Program (TEP) is required of all students prior to enrolling in professional education courses beyond Phase I. Note, SPED 226 may be completed during Phase I, II, or III.

Occupational Experience:
Required: 28 Semester Hours

This requirement can be met by the following options:

  1. Three years (6,000 clock hours) in the specific trade or occupation to be taught for the granting of 28 semester hours.
  2. Two and one-half years (5,000 clock hours) in the specific trade or occupation to be taught for the granting of 24 semester hours; plus 1,080 clock hours in a state approved secondary vocational program or approved technical courses and/or an internship for 4 semester hours.
  3. Two years (4,000 clock hours) in the specific trade or occupation to be taught for the granting of 18 semester hours; plus 10 semester hours for the successful completion of one of the following: an organized apprenticeship program; a full-time, two-year, post-secondary vocational program; approved technical courses; or an internship.
  4. One and one-half years (3,000 clock hours) in the specific trade or occupation to be taught for the granting of 14 semester hours; plus 1,080 clock hours in an approved secondary vocational program and either an organized apprenticeship program or a two-year full-time, post-secondary technical vocational program for 14 semester hours.

Teaching) Curricula

Like the Bachelor of Science in Career and Technical Education (teaching option), the major requires 52 semester hours. However, the 30 semester hours in the teaching curriculum are switched over to 25 hours in Electives. The electives can be used to form a minor or give emphasis in another field. In addition, 47-50 semester hours of General Education is required to complete the degree.
