Dr. Athanassios (Ethan) Strigas, a native of Greece, graduated from the University of Athens with a bachelor's degree in physical education. During his undergraduate years, he served as elected representative of the student body of 40,000 students to the University Senate. At the start of his tenure at ISU, he has had the opportunity to become involved with numerous departmental and University-wide committees that focus on curriculum development, the direction of the undergraduate/graduate programs, funding of academic research, and international relations.

Dr. Strigas came to the United States in 1996 to further pursue his education at Western Illinois University where he graduated with a Masters degree in Sport Management. After spending a summer with a professional soccer franchise in Nashville, Tennessee, he moved to Tallahassee, Florida to study for his doctoral degree. Three years later, he was awarded his doctorate with a specialization in sport management.

Immediately following his graduation, he was hired as an assistant professor in sport management at Hampton University in Virginia. As coordinator of the sport management program, he had the opportunity to develop course curriculum, reading materials, and lecture topics for all major sport management courses including finance and law, marketing, management, and facilities. All courses were designed to be web-enhanced.

Dr. Strikas came to Indiana State University in fall 2002. Currently, he is teaching courses in both the undergraduate and graduate program. An active researcher, Dr. Strigas has presented his work at several national and international conferences. His work has been published in a variety of journals, including Pandektis International Journal of Sport Law, the International Sports Journal, and the Sport Management International Journal. He is a member of the editorial board for the International Sport Management Journal, the ICHPER –SD Journal of Research, and the Sport Management International Journal.

Dr. Strikas is also affiliated with the North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM); the International Association for Sport Law (IASL); and the American Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Sport, and Dance (AAHPERD). His immediate research plans involve the advancement of knowledge regarding sport volunteerism, selected issues in sport finance (economic impact theory and techniques), and sport marketing (sponsorship evaluation techniques). In order to financially support his research endeavors, he has been involved in grant proposal writing. His grant-writing record exceeds $150,000 in funding.

Dr. Strikas' teaching abilities have been challenged in different educational settings with diverse populations and age groups. Through his affiliation with municipalities, high schools, private clubs, and professional organizations, he has had the opportunity to instruct individual/team sports and develop sport management curricula for almost all age and skill levels.

During his leisure time, he likes to play soccer and run long distance races. His own immediate volunteering goal is to be involved with the Olympic movement in the United States. He is also working to transform selected sport management courses for on-line delivery.
