This interdisciplinary program was established to provide students at Indiana State University with an understanding of the history, cultures, and development of Latin America and the experiences of the fast-growing Latino population of the United States. It is administered by a committee composed of the following members:

The program receives staff assistance from the International Affairs Center. It is affiliated with the Consortium of Latin American Studies Programs.

The activities of the program have been geared toward raising the profile of Latin American/Latino issues and Hispanic culture on campus—in cooperation with academic departments and interested groups.  To that end, the LALSP has co-sponsored speakers with a number of departments, initiated a Latin American Film Festival, assisted in the presentation of a survey on race relations with Sociology, joined the National Consortium of Latin American Studies programs, and begun coordinating events such as Hispanic Night with the Hispanic Student Association.  At the center of the program is an interdisciplinary minor in Latin American/Latino Studies.
