Liberal Studies Degree Program
Requirements
Requirements to declare the Liberal Studies Major
●
admission to the Liberal Studies major is granted to all new
freshmen admitted unconditionally to the university
● admission to the Liberal Studies
major is granted to transfer and continuing students who have earned a
minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 in all prior undergraduate
coursework
●
a minimum of 74 credits of course work for the degree must be
taken from the College of Arts and Sciences
●
students seeking the Bachelor of Arts must complete two years of
study in a single foreign language
●
all students must fulfill the requirements of the Foundational
Studies program
● all students must submit a proposal for the Liberal Studies Concentration to:
Interdisciplinary Programs

Requirements to propose a Liberal Studies Concentration
●
the Liberal Studies Concentration requires a minimum of 42 credit
hours
●
no more than 24 credit hours in the Liberal Studies Concentration
may be taken outside the College of Arts and Sciences
●
no more than 24 credit hours may be taken in a single discipline
●
the concentration must include 21 hours of 300 or 400-level
courses
●
courses included in the concentration cannot be used to meet any
Foundational Studies requirement
●
Liberal Studies majors must earn a minimum grade point average of
2.5 in the Liberal Studies Concentration
●
Liberal Studies majors must submit a Liberal Studies
Concentration Proposal Form to Interdisciplinary Programs no later
than the end of the semester after admission to the program. If approved
by the Liberal Studies faculty, the student may proceed with the
curriculum.
● Once approved, the Liberal Studies
Concentration Proposal constitutes the program of study for the major;
any subsequent changes in the concentration proceed through the standard
petition and review process.
