These are courses whose focus extends beyond a single language,
literature, culture, or discipline.
- 103 Elementary World Languages Study Abroad.
1-4 credits. Study abroad at an
elementary level of a language. Offerings
currently include 103A Arabic; 103C, Chinese; 103F,
French; 103G, German; 103I, Italian; 103J, Japanese;
103K, Greek; 103N, Latin; 103-O, other; 103P,
Portuguese; 103R, Russian; and 103S, Spanish.
Students may take for credit any number of 103 courses
as long as topics or sections change, and may take more
than one topic or section in the same semester.
- 170 Humanities and the Modern World--3 credits.
An introduction to the study of the humanities.
The course deals with questions and issues raised by the
humanities in the modern world. General Education

- 180 Topics in Languages, Literatures, &
Linguistics -- 1-4 credits. An analysis of a topic
that involves one or more language areas. Topics
for study will change from term to term. May be
repeated for credit when topic is different.
- 200 Introduction to Language and Culture for
Students of Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics -- 3
credits. Theories and practice of linguistic and
cultural analysis for majors and minors in Languages,
Literatures, and Linguistics.
- 203 Intermediate World Langauges Study
Abroad. 1-4 credits. Study abroad
at an intermediate level of a language. Offerings

- 250 Literature and Life --3 credits.
Understanding how writers have imagined and represented
human experiences through the study of recurrent themes
in literature.
- 280 Topics in Languages, Literatures, &

- 303 Advanced Intermediate World
Languages Study Abroad. 1-4 credits.
Study abroad at an advanced intermediate level
of a language. Offerings currently include 303A,

- 350 – Interdisciplinary Studies in LLL--3
credits. Interdisciplinary Studies in Languages,
literatures, or linguistics. Thematic
investigation of a particular topic or issue in
languages, literatures, or linguistics that integrates
multiple ways of knowing through critical reading and a
project or research involving analysis and writing at an
advanced level. Topics vary. Repeatable when

- 380 Topics in Languages, Literatures, &
Linguistics -- 1-4 credits. An analysis of a topic
that involves one or more language areas. Topics
for study will change from term to term. May be
repeated for credit when topic is different.
- 400 Senior Project for Students of Language
Studies -- 1 credit. This
course requires students to complete a supervised
research project in their area of study culminating in a
presentation. Students meet weekly with peer
groups.
- 402 Teaching an Integrated Unit -- 1 credit.
Guidance for and experience in teaching an integrated
unit of content and writing a professional report based
on that instruction. Must be taken with and can
only be taken with Curriculum, Instruction, and Media
Technology 401.
- 403 Advanced World Languages Study Abroad.
1-4 credits. Study abroad at an advanced level
of a language. Offerings currently include 403A,
Arabic: 403C, Chinese; 403F, French; 403G, German; 403I,
Italian; 403J, Japanese; 403K, Greek; 403N, Latin;
403-O, Other; 403P, Portuguese; 403R, Russian; and 403S,
Spanish. Students may take for credit any number
of 403 courses as long as topics or sections change, and
may take more than one topic or section in the same
semester.
- 409 Internship in Languages, Literatures, and
Linguistics -- 1-4 credits. Practicum designed to
provide direct, supervised experiences for undergraduate
students in the area of languages, literatures, and
linguistics. Experiences are tailored to the needs
of the student. The area in which the internship
is taken will be designated on the student's transcript,
for example, Internship: Spanish translation.
Prerequisite: successful completion of at least
202-level course work or higher in a language or at
least Linguistics 200 or 210 (or higher). May be
repeated for a total of no more than 4 credit hours.
- 480 Topics in Languages, Literatures, &
Linguistics -- 1-4 credits. An analysis of a topic
that involves one or more language areas. Topics
for study will change from term to term. May be
repeated for credit when topic is different.
- 490 Language Teaching Methods -- 3 credits. An
examination of past and current methods and techniques
for language teaching. Students will examine,
develop, and evaluate curriculum materials for the
language classroom and demonstrate application of
teaching and learning theory through microteaching
lessons.
- 580 Topics in Languages, Literatures,
and Linguistics - 1-4 credits. An analysis of a
topic that involves one or more language areas. Topics
for study will change from term to term. May be repeated
for credit when topic is different.
- 590 Language Teaching Methods
--3 credits. An examination of past and current
methods and techniques for language teaching. Students
will examine, develop, and evaluate curriculum materials
for the language classroom and demonstrate application
of teaching and learning theory through microteaching
lessons.
- 600 Current Issues in Languages,
Literatures, and Linguistics - 2 credits.
An examination of current issues and research in the
areas of languages, literatures, and linguistics.
- 607 Introduction to Problems of Research in
Languages, Literature, and Linguistics - 3 credits.
Designed to familiarize students with problems of
research in language and literature and to acquaint them
with the most important bibliographical tools and major
journals in their language. A graduate-level research
paper is required.
- 699 Master's Thesis - 1-6 credits. A
maximum of 6 credits may be counted toward the degree.
Repeatable for a maximum of 6 credits.
- 709 Advanced Internship in Languages,
Literatures, and Linguistics - 1-4 credits.
Practicum designed to provide direct, supervised
experiences for advanced graduate students in the area
of Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics. The
experiences are tailored to the needs of the student.
Prerequisite:
Minimum of 15 credits of graduate course work in the
appropriate language area including LLL 600. Repeatable:
May be repeated for up to six credits. S-U grading
