If you already have an Indiana teaching license, you can add the ENL
licensure by completing our Graduate Certificate in TESL/TEFL.
Licensure will be for the level of your original license.
Graduate Students who do not already have an Indiana Teaching License can
earn one through the university's
Transition to Teaching
program. A Master's degree does not automatically confer licensure,
but it demonstrates competence in the content area, which makes one eligible
for the Transition to Teaching. Other qualifications necessary for
application to the Transition to Teaching Program include an Undergraduate
GPA of 3.0 or a GPA of 2.5 plus 5 years of experience in the field. This program consists of 18 semester
hours of study in teaching pedagogy (3 semester hours of which are taken in
the LLL department) and adolescent development, with supervised field
experiences. Most courses are offered online, and include field
experiences that can be adapted to accommodate working individuals.
See your
advisor, Dr.
Lisa Calvin, or Dr. Judy
Sheese, the Director of
Education Student Services
(812-237-3131), for specific questions about teaching
licensure in your area.
