Undergraduate Admissions Office
Students who apply to any of our graduate programs should complete the following steps. If you have any questions not answered below or on our FAQ page, contact Dr. Cecil Nelson at cecil.nelson@indstate.edu.
A resume including your academic and work experience,
A statement of purpose explaining why you are interested in pursuing graduate work in the department, and
Three letters of recommendation from former professors, if possible, or employers who can comment on the likelihood of your success in your proposed program of graduate study.
If the student’s preparation is determined to be unsatisfactory, his or her application may be rejected or he or she may be asked to take additional undergraduate courses or be given an examination to test his or her competence in the area.
Given the demands of the curriculum and importance of course sequencing, conditionally admitted students are accepted for admission in the fall semester only. Conditionally admitted students seeking to begin the program in the spring semester or a summer term are required to obtain acceptable TOEFL scores prior to enrollment.
Applicants for admission to the Ph.D. program in Curriculum and Instruction with Specialization in Language Education should see the College of Education section of the Graduate Catalog. for a description of the admission requirements for the program.
Deadlines for Application to TESL/Linguistics Programs--Applications to graduate programs in TESL/Linguistics may not be ensured full consideration if they are received after the following dates:
Applications for Spring or Summer enrollment are considered only under exceptional circumstances for highly qualified applicants.
International students should apply even sooner, at least 16 weeks before the date of intended enrollment. The Department reviews applications as soon as they arrive in our office, but delays sometimes occur in the International Programs and Services and/or the College of Graduate and Professional Studies. If you have not received a response to your application within six weeks, please contact us at LLL@indstate.edu to determine the status of your application.
