As you begin to consider what courses to take, we would like to let you
in on a little secret:
Talented students know that the skills for today's job market don't
always come from one department.
Increasingly, professional and business fields are recognizing the
impact of our multicultural / multilinguistic world. Indiana State
graduates are finding that a major or minor in languages combined with a
major in another discipline ideally positions them to successfully find
jobs in a multicultural environment. With combined degrees the
opportunities are endless! There are positions in Indiana, the U.S.
and around the world working in government, businesses, education, travel
industries, and computer technology.
This is a sample of WHAT ISU GRADUATES ARE DOING:
- A student with majors in German and Chemistry was appointed to head
up a joint venture with a German chemical firm because he was the only
executive in his company with an ability in German. He later
became the company's CEO.
- A student in French took a position with the U.S. Immigration and
Naturalization Service. She later accepted a position with an
international accounting firm on the basis of her knowledge of
French and immigration/import law.
- A student with majors in German and the International Business
Concentration secured a two-year internship in Germany. On his return
he entered law school and is preparing for a career in international
law. He is one of many language majors who have gone on to study law.
- A student with a double major in Latin and French taught English in
Japan. His Japanese became so good that he returned with a
lucrative job with Toyota in the U.S.
- A student in Psychology and German is now practicing in the area of
psycho-linguistics.
- ISU pre-medicine students with majors in languages have done
research abroad or are practicing abroad.
- Numerous ISU students with teaching credentials combined language
with other disciplines and are teaching in middle schools and high
schools nation-wide.
Let us show you how to make your ISU degree even better.
