Biography

Dr. Carmen Montañez is an Emerita Professor of Spanish. She got her Ph.D. from University of Kentucky in 1995, M.A., from University of Louisville in 1989, and Juris Doctor from Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico in 1983. Her research interests include: Colonial and Twentieth-Century Latin American Literature. She is the author of Books: De el fanguito a la loza (Indiana: Editorial Naboria, 2001) and Subversión y creativad: El personaje femenino en varias escritoras puertorriqueñas. (New York: Peter Lang, 1998); Short story: "Declaración antes de una posible perpetua", in Letras femeninas (2000) from her collection of short stories De el fanguito a la loza; and has published articles in journals such as Anuario del Ateneo Puertorriqueño, Revista del Ateneo Puertorriqueño, Latin American Theater Review, Baneke: a Latino Review of Arts and Literature, Revista Iberoamericana, Explicación de Textos Literarios and Exégesis. She had taught: Latin American Literature (Novel, Theater and Short Story), Latin American Legend, Business Translation, Spanish American Culture, Hispanic Caribbean Literature, Advanced and Intermediate Spanish.

Dr. Montañez was also the Director of a Study Abroad in Costa Rica Program. This successful program had the participation of almost all minor and major students in Spanish in ISU, as well as students from other institutions in Indiana and Ohio.

Dr. Carmen Montañez taught at the Universidad de Segovia during the summer of 2007.
