- 101 Elementary German I -- 3 credits. Introduction to German culture and language. Culture, lifestyle and customs of German-language speakers. Fundamentals of language (pronunciation, intonation, grammatical structures), with development of communicative skills in a cultural context. Includes open-hour laboratory. [FS 2010: Non-Native Language]
- 102 Elementary German II -- 3 credits. Continuation of German 101. Includes open-hour laboratory. Prerequisite: 101 or equivalent. [FS 2010: Non-Native Language]
- 199 Honors Summer Seminar for High School Students -- 2 credits. Intensive conversational German.
- 201 Intermediate German I -- 3 credits. Grammar review, composition, conversation. Topics in German culture. Prerequisite: 102 or equivalent. Prerequisite: GERM 102 or equivalent.
- 202 Intermediate German II -- 3 credits. Continuation of German 201. Prerequisite: GERM 201 or equivalent.
- 301 Advanced German Grammar -- 3 credits. An overview of the major points of German grammar. Includes vocabulary building and communicative practice in both oral and written form.
- 303 Readings in German -- 3 credits. Introduction to literary and cultural readings in German.
- 308 Weimar and Fascism in German Culture -- 3 credits. Analysis of the principal cultural developments of the Weimar period and the rise of German Fascism (in English). Does not count for credit toward the major for Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics students under the German option. (Conducted in English)
- 311 Introduction to German Culture -- 3 credits. Historical survey of principal trends of German culture.
- 312 Introduction German Literature -- 3 credits. Selections from German-speaking writers from the Middle Ages to the present.
- 321 Advanced German Conversation -- 3 credits. Advanced work in oral German, with emphasis on developing pronunciation, vocabulary, idioms, listening comprehension and general fluency. This course may be taken twice for credit by approval of the major/minor advisor.
- 322 Advanced German Composition -- 3 credits. Advanced work in written German with emphasis on writing for various purposes.
- 394 Studies in German -- 1-4 credits. Studies in German language, literature, or culture with topics changing from semester to semester according to the needs and interests of students.(Conducted in English)
- 405 German Conversation and Civilization -- 3 credits. Intensive practice in spoken German based upon topics dealing with contemporary Germany. Emphasis on current vocabulary.
- 406 Contemporary German Culture -- 3 credits. In-depth analysis of contemporary cultural institutions and developments in German-speaking countries.
- 485 German Drama -- 3 credits. Analysis of select dramatic works by German-speaking authors with emphasis on the development of the German theater tradition.
- 495 Undergraduate Studies in German -- 1-3 credits. Studies in German language, literature, or culture with topics changing from semester to semester according to the needs and interests of the students (May be repeated for credit under different topics.)

- 595 Graduate Studies in German - 1-3 credits. Studies in German language, literature, or culture, with topics changing from semester to semester according to the needs and interests of the students. This course may be repeated for credit under different topics.
