The truly good news of the 21st century is that the spirit of service has never been stronger. Again and again people seek to be of use—they want to contribute, to make a difference where they are, to help their communities reach their full potential and provide the best lives possible for all community members. Leadership Wabash Valley has been a central partner in community service for 30 years—and we continue to demonstrate our commitment to active partnership with the communities we serve and in which we live.
The value of our work was recognized in 2006, when LWV was named one of the top 100 community leadership development programs in the nation by Leadership Excellence. (Click here for more information.)
Leadership Wabash Valley introduces emerging leaders to existing leaders, exposes the participants to the broad impact upon our communities of the private, public and non-profit sectors and reinforces that it is our responsibility to make our communities places in which we want to work, play and raise our families. Leadership Terre Haute, as it was then known, has had a tremendous impact upon my life. It helped to shape my current career, it provided me exposure to our community's leadership and, most importantly, through LTH, I have built friendships that have lasted ever since Class 10. Beth Tevlin, Class 10, Wabash Valley Community Foundation
Learning Tools
Appreciative Inquiry Leadership Wabash Valley remains a hallmark program Covey’s 7 Habits by enabling individuals to achieve their goal to serve the th Fish Philosophy Valley. LWV delivers a broad-based, complex, Learning Styles and useful development program that combines study of Personality Profile community service with practice.
Members of each year's class have enjoyed opportunities to learn about leadership excellence and practice effective leadership—examining and using specific tools and popular approaches. Class members benefit from their place in a community of learners with whom they struggle and grow through the year--creating valuable relationships that last beyond the end of the "advance."
Class members are consistently impressed with the key community leaders they meet and the talented facilitators who contribute their time and expertise. The places they visit provide insight into the Valley. Our professional development program is accredited, providing the opportunity for members to earn graduate or undergraduate college credit or continuing education units.
Leadership Wabash Valley has proven to be a force in our community not only for the education and training offered to members of each class, but for the contributions made by program graduates. Knowing what needs to be done isn't enough. You have to get involved to make things happen. Leadership Wabash Valley graduates do just that. Elizabeth A. Smith, First Financial, Class 3
The program expanded its focus on helping adults take on the rewarding role of community leader to provide Wabash Valley young people the opportunity to learn to serve—and to serve. Youth Leadership was founded in 1990 and has engaged over 100 high school students in a “learning by doing” development model. Benefits of participation in Youth Leadership go far beyond skill sets, knowledge gains, and projects completed—though that work is highly valued. Students who participate in Youth Leadership better navigate those late teen years to a successful emergent adulthood. We change lives. | |
