Director - Dixie Brown For more than a decade, Dixie Brown has become synonymous with the organization that she directs. In a subtle, quiet way, she has helped hundreds of area residents build and develop their skills as leaders. A member of Leadership Terre Haute's Class X, Dixie became the executive director of this organization in 1991.               Brown is a graduate of Kansas Wesleyan, where she earned her bachelor's, and the University of Kansas, where she obtained her master's degree. She is a member of the Community Leaders Association where she served on the 21st Century Leadership Initiative and a board member of Indiana Leadership Association. She is also a Stephen Covey 7 Habits of Highly Effective People facilitator and a Joel Barker Implication's Wheel facilitator. She is a member of the Alliance for Servant-Leadership at Indiana State University. She has served the Memorial United Methodist Church in many capacities and also is involved with Newcomers Club and Rotary. In addition, she has served as the director of the Children's Theater of Terre Haute for the past sixteen years putting countless hours into their numerous productions. In September 2001, Arts Illiana rewarded her for her hours of service with the Bravo Award. In 1999, Dixie was recognized by Indiana State University with a Distinguished Service Award for her many contributions to the community. She was honored by the Children's Theater for outstanding achievement in 1998. That same year, Leadership Terre Haute also awarded Dixie the prestigious Alan Rankin Award for outstanding community service. Dixie is a part of the Indiana State University family. Her late husband, J. Thomas Brown, provided exceptional service to the University as its archivist for many years. They have two daughters, Alison and Valerie, who are both graduates of Indiana State University. Alison is currently teaching Kindergarten ELL in Tennessee. Valerie is employed at WilliamsRandall Marketing Communications as a Project Manager.
