  1. A sincere demonstrated commitment, motivation, and interest to serve the Wabash Valley community.
  2. Interest in seeking key volunteer, public office, board, or commission leadership roles in the Terre Haute community.
  3. Potential or existing opportunities for advancement of leadership positions within their own organization which, in turn, may play a significant role in the Wabash Valley community.
  4. A diversified representation of class members from a cross-section of the community including business, labor, education, the arts, religion, government, community based organizations, and ethnic and minority groups.
  5. Demonstrated leadership indicated by involvement in past community activities.
  6. An ability to make the time commitment required by the program.
  7. Application to Leadership Wabash Valley is open to persons living in the Wabash Valley.

(Please note that admission to this program is not dependent upon the extent of your education.)

Application Fee

A $100 application fee must accompany your application, which will be applied to tuition if accepted.  If not accepted, the application fee will be refunded.  Otherwise, the deposit is non-refundable.

Attendance Requirement

The Leadership Wabash Valley Board of Directors asks that Leadership Wabash Valley participants commit to attendance at the opening retreat, closing advance, and all monthly sessions.  If you and/or your employer are unable to make this commitment, it is not in your best interest to apply.  Attendance is monitored and absenteeism may result in a request for your resignation from the program.  You will be asked to make up missed classes prior to receiving your certificate of completion.

The Executive Director of Leadership Wabash Valley must be notified in extreme situations for excused absences.

Review Process

In reviewing applications, the selection committee looks for potential participants who demonstrate the following criteria:
  1. Commitment and motivation to serve the Wabash Valley area.
  2. Policy-shaping responsibility or position of leadership in employment and/or volunteer organizations resulting in the potential to have significant influence on important issues facing the community.
  3. Ability to make the time commitment required by the program.

  4. Extension of the training received in this program that would impact future leadership opportunities.

  5. Full support of the organization or corporation they represent.  Individuals may also apply and support themselves as a community representative.

Tuition and Scholarships

The cost of tuition of the Leadership Wabash Valley program is payable as per the instructions in the Commitment Statement.  This amount covers the cost of most meals, lodging, and speakers related to the seminars.  The tuition paid for the Leadership Wabash Valley program may be tax deductible as a business expense; consult your tax advisor.  Applicants may apply for a partial scholarship; however, only a limited number of scholarships are available.  Please contact the Executive Director for more information.
